Terms of Service

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and South Asian Law Portal ("SALP", "we", "us", or "our"), the operator of the SALP — South Asian Law Portal platform, mobile applications, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Who may use the Service

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a legally binding contract to use SALP. If you use the Service on behalf of a law firm, organisation, or other entity, you represent that you are authorised to bind that entity to these Terms, and "you" refers to that entity.

2. Accounts and security

• You are responsible for the information you provide and for keeping it accurate and up to date.
• You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for all activity under your account. We strongly recommend enabling two-factor authentication (2FA).
• Notify us immediately at support@salp.co if you suspect any unauthorised use of your account.
• Accounts are personal to the registered user or seat. You may not share, sell, or transfer your account without our written consent.

3. The Service — important: not legal advice

SALP is a legal research and productivity tool. It provides access to case law, statutes, citations, document tools, and AI-assisted features that help legal professionals work more efficiently.

SALP does not provide legal advice and is not a substitute for the judgement of a qualified lawyer. Using the Service does not create a lawyer–client relationship between you and SALP. Nothing in the Service should be relied upon as legal advice, and you remain solely responsible for any professional decisions, filings, or advice you give to your own clients. Always independently verify legal authorities, dates, and citations before relying on them.

4. AI-assisted features

Some features generate summaries, briefs, chat responses, and analysis using artificial intelligence and third-party AI providers. AI output can be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect ("hallucinated"), and may misstate the law. You must review, verify, and edit AI-generated content before using or relying on it. You are responsible for all content you submit to, and all decisions you make based on, AI features.

5. Subscriptions, billing, and renewals

• Certain features require a paid subscription. Plans, prices, billing cycles (monthly or annual), and any usage limits (including AI usage allowances) are shown at the point of purchase.
• Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your full card details. By subscribing you also agree to the processor's terms.
• Auto-renewal: subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.
• Prices are exclusive of taxes unless stated otherwise; you are responsible for any applicable taxes.
• Refunds are governed by our Return & Refund Policy.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the Service unlawfully, or to infringe the rights of others, including intellectual property and privacy rights;
• scrape, harvest, bulk-download, resell, or redistribute content or data from the Service except as expressly permitted;
• reverse engineer, interfere with, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its infrastructure, or other users' data;
• upload malware, or content that is unlawful, defamatory, or that you do not have the right to upload;
• use the Service to build or train a competing product, or exceed reasonable usage or rate limits.

7. Your content

You retain ownership of the documents, notes, case data, and other material you upload or create ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host, process, transmit, and display Your Content solely to operate, secure, and improve the Service for you. You are responsible for having the rights to Your Content and for keeping your own backups of anything important. We treat Your Content as confidential in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

8. Our intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, editorial content, database structure, trademarks, and the "SALP" name and logo, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by law. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable licence to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. No other rights are granted.

9. Third-party services and content

The Service integrates third-party services (for example, Google sign-in, Stripe, cloud hosting, email/SMS delivery, and AI providers) and may reference third-party legal sources. We are not responsible for third-party services or the accuracy of third-party content, and your use of them may be subject to their own terms.

10. Availability and changes

We work to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features, with or without notice. See our Shipping & Service Delivery Policy for how access is provided.

11. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and the accuracy, completeness, or currency of legal content or AI output.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SALP and its officers, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Service in the three (3) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold SALP harmless from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms or of applicable law.

14. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, fail to pay, or where necessary to protect the Service or other users. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; sections that by their nature should survive (for example, ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts at Karachi, Pakistan shall have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory rights you have under applicable consumer law.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, by email or an in-app notice). Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

17. General

• If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
• Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
• You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
• These Terms, together with the Privacy, Refund, and Service policies, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
